In 2007 the North East exported around £18 million worth of food and drink goods and services to France, which is the UK's third largest export market and a major economic trade partner.
As part of its ongoing programme of market visits, UK Trade & Investment will be hosting two visits to France in October, following on from each other, giving companies the chance to take part in one or both to find out more about the market and meet potential customers.
Jeff Bean, International Trade Adviser and Sector Lead for Food and Drink, who will accompany the group, explained:
"Our first visit - 20-22 October - will explore the opportunities in the food and drink sector as it offers companies the chance to visit the SIAL Paris exhibition, the major food and drink conference in France.
"SIAL is a showcase for innovation and a truly global business platform. With more than 140,000 visitors and 5,300 exhibitors, it is the key event for food industry professionals - manufacturers, retailers, distributors, importers, wholesalers, institutional and commercial catering."
Keith Stockdale, International Trade Adviser and Sector Lead for Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, added:
"Delegates will also have the opportunity of joining us as we travel to Lyon - 22-24 October - which offers the chance to meet key companies and trade associations such as the Axelera Chemical Cluster and the Innovation Energy Environment research and development centre.
"We are also offering an optional healthcare and bioscience itinerary for companies involved in those sectors.
"Companies have the choice of taking part in either one of the visits, or both, and we can arrange for Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS) reports before departure to help companies maximise the opportunities."
The France Market Visits to Paris and the SIAL Exhibition, 20-22 October 2008 and to Lyon, 22-24 October, will enable delegates to explore the market with like-minded businesses and receive the full support of an International Trade Adviser prior to, during and after the visit.
Companies have until the end of August to sign up for the visit. Eligible companies may also receive a financial contribution towards the costs of the visit from UK Trade & Investment.
