Board Members wanted for new sustainable development Champion Body

Published: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 08:57:02

The Government Office for the North East, The North East Assembly and One NorthEast are looking to appoint up to 12 Board Members to serve on the new Champion Body for Sustainable Development in the North East – Sustaine.

The aim of this new body is to be a catalyst for change, a provider of strategic advice, to promote best practice, and to sponsor innovative projects, playing a key role in the delivery of sustainable development in the region.

The UK Government has established a set of shared principles of sustainable development. For a policy, plan or programme to be sustainable, it must respect all five principles. The shared principles are living within environmental limits, achieving a strong, healthy and just society, by the means of a sustainable economy, while promoting good governance, and using sound science responsibly.

We are looking to appoint a Board that will provide high level direction and regional leadership, primarily through its work on the Integrated Regional Framework (IRF). In particular we are looking for people with skills and experience across a range of sectors, for example business and commerce, academia, politics and government (national, regional & local), health, education, environment, climate change and energy, housing, communities, transport, and the voluntary and community sector.

For more information and an application pack visit www.sustaine.com or contact Kirstin Wright tel 0191 202 3891 kirstin.wright@gone.gsi.gov.uk
