North East firms urged to look east for international success

Published: Fri, 12 Sep 2008 12:49:54

North East firms are being offered the chance to spice up their exports at a special event focussing on the many opportunities available in India.

UK Trade and Investment and the UK India Business Council have joined forced to organise the India...add spice to you business event at Durham County Cricket Club, Chester-le-Street, Tuesday 2 October, 9am to 1pm.

Geoff Young, one of UK Trade and Investment's International Trade Advisers and Country Lead for India, said "India is the second largest export market in the developing world and with UK exports to India already in excess of £3 billion, there are many opportunities for North East companies to do business in this market.

"Companies in the North East are well positioned to take advantage of the growing export and investment opportunities that India offers in a wide range of sectors including biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, construction, creative and media, education, engineering, environment, healthcare and medical, ICT and oil and gas.

"This event gives companies a chance to find out more about those opportunities, the best ways to access the market and the support available as well as our forthcoming market visit to India in February next year."

Stan Higgins, Chief Executive Officer for NEPIC will chair the event and Sharon Bamford, Chief Executive Officer for the UK India Business Council will provide a profile of India.

Other key speakers will include:

  • Shalini Agarwal, of ALMT Legal, who will offer an insight into regulation, payments and documentation issues
  • Phil Hollowood, Reach Ambassador with NEPIC, who will discuss cluster development
  • Ian Ramsay, of Trelleborg
  • James Robson, of Exwold, who will discuss their own companies' experiences of doing business in India.

The India...add spice to your business event is free but the number of places is limited. For more information or to book a place contact the North East International Trade Hotline on 0845 05 05 054 or email enquiries@ukti.rito.co.uk
