Mapping public service funded initiatives: tackling worklessness in deprived areas

Published: Thu, 20 Nov 2008 12:14:46

The Government Office Network has published a report which provides information on a selection of initiatives that focus on tackling worklessness with vulnerable groups in deprived areas.

The report published on 20 November 2008, is the outcome of research commissioned by Government Office for London on behalf of the Network and is supported by the Local Government Association and the Cabinet Office Social Exclusion Taskforce.

The report captures a variety of initiatives submitted by local authorities and other partners including those:

  • aiming at reducing worklessness with both families and individuals
  • tackling the barriers to employment such as providing training, improving skills and reducing anti-social behaviour, and
  • coordinating a range of services, including, health and childcare provision, alongside interventions to improve employment opportunities.

Short summaries of each initiative have been published in the report, noting the key characteristics under standard headings including:

  • lead partner
  • funding sources
  • contact details.

The report provides useful information which may interest those wishing to learn from the experience of others in tackling worklessness.
