Ron Seymour, one of UK Trade and Investment's International Trade Advisors and Country Lead for Turkey, said "Turkey is one of the world's largest markets with a population of around 70 million and has recently confirmed its position as the 17th biggest economy in the world. Its growth rate is impressive and Turkey is expected to rank third for growth in the next ten years behind India and China.
"Combine this high rate of economic growth with its strategic location between Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, means that Turkey is a market that offers many business opportunities for UK companies and those in the Northern regions are well positioned to take advantage of them.
"Our event offers an ideal opportunity for companies to find out more about the market, the opportunities it offers and how to make the most of them as well as the support available.
"UK Trade and Investment is also hoping to organise a Market Visit to Turkey in May 2009 and delegates will be able to find out how they can explore the market with the support of other like-minded businesses."
Graham Percival, UK Trade and Investment's Deputy International Trade Director for Yorkshire and Humber will chair the event while Sarah Mooney, Head of UK Trade and Investment in Istanbul will offer an overview of Turkey and the opportunities it offers.
Other key speakers will include:
- Yavuz Sokmen, Chief Executive Officer of the Turkish-British Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who will offer an introduction to doing business in Turkey
- Andrew Shaw of Guardian Marine, who will discussion his own recent experience of working with and developing a foothold in the Turkish market
- Mike Pritchett, of Anetic Aid Ltd, who has supplied medical equipment in the UK and overseas (including Turkey) for more than 25 years.
