Cambridge Research Biochemicals (CRB), of Billingham, manufactures and supplies research reagents such as peptides and antibodies to the biological and pharmaceutical sector.
Established 29 years ago and bought out by Emily Humphrys and Alison White in 2000, the company already supplies a wide range of customers around the world including leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and research institutes.
Keen to explore new markets the company enlisted the support of UK Trade & Investment and signed up to its "Passport to Export" initiative. This has provided financial support to enable CRB to participate in more trade exhibitions around the world than would otherwise have been possible and also to extend its business activities into France and Germany.
Emily Humphrys, Commercial Director for Cambridge Research Biochemicals, explained:
"One of the key elements of our success is our ability to build relationships and consult with our customers in order to be an extension of their research activities - an approach that we have practised from the beginning of CRB. We build up a strong working knowledge and partnership with our clients and our customers in the UK often help us to reach out their colleagues and business contacts overseas.
"We believe passionately in doing as much business as possible face to face and we also have a long-term focus - we sow the seeds today which we will reap tomorrow. We realise strong export sales are derived from hard work, planning, investing the time until eventually, perhaps after two years, a new account is born.
"And we have maintained good relations with UK Trade & Investment and made the most of the support offered through Passport to help us achieve our aim to become a leading international provider for custom peptides and antibodies."
Keith Stockdale, one of UK Trade & Investment's International Trade Advisers, said:
"Cambridge Research Biochemicals already has a strong reputation in its field and is an experienced exporter, but the company was still able to benefit from additional support available through Passport to help it identify and target new markets.
"Passport offers a unique package of support that can be tailor-made to suit an individual company's needs and a designated International Trade Adviser will work closely with the company to develop and implement an export plan.
"We're delighted Cambridge Research Biochemicals has been able to benefit from the programme and would encourage other companies - whether new or experienced exporters - to get in touch to find out how we can help."
