Stern Review into rape complaints

Baroness Stern will be visiting Government Office for the North East on 30 November. The visit forms part of the evidence gathering element of a review into how public authorities, including police, local authorities, health providers and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), respond individually to rape complaints, how they interact with each other, professionals' attitudes to rape and evidence from victims. The review is not looking at legislation as the Violence against women and girls strategy indicated that the law is adequate. It is the application of the law that is failing.

One North East board reappointments

Pat McFadden, Minister of State for Employment Relations and Postal Affairs, today announced the reappointment of three existing members of the Board of One North East.
North East Fire and Rescue services lead the way

The North East is the first part of the country to have all three of its emergency services connected to a single new clearer radio communications network, Fire Minister Sadiq Khan announced during his visit to the North East today. This means that more lives could be saved as the services can use the same communication system to co-ordinate response to emergencies.
Taking Forward the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration

Communities and Local Government and Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform have published 'Taking Forward the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration' (SNR) which provides an update on progress in implementing the SNR in advance of a full consultation document which will be published early in 2008.
