Local strategic partnerships

We support the development of local strategic partnerships (LSPs) and act as mediators to resolve problems and provide a communication channel between LSPs and central government.

Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) are single non-statutory bodies that bring together local public, private, community and voluntary organisations, generally at the level of District, County and Unitary councils.  They work with the local community to identify and tackle key issues such as crime, unemployment, education, health and housing in a more co-ordinated manner than has happened before. In the North East, each of the 12 councils has set up a local strategic partnership; 10 of them qualify for funding from the Working Neighbourhoods Fund.

LSPs are the key vehicles for taking forward the neighbourhood renewal agenda.

Funding is allocated to local authorities but spending decisions must be agreed by LSPs. Local authorities sit on the LSP as partners along with representatives from public, private, community and voluntary organisations.
