14-19 Diplomas

14-19 reforms includes a national target for all learners to have access to all 14 diplomas by 2013. This is called achieving the national entitlement. The 14-19 partnerships in each local authority area are invited annually to apply to a gateway to deliver the 14-19 diplomas and can decide each year how many of the diplomas on offer to apply for. However, each partnership must have a clear and realistic plan in place to achieve the national entitlement.

In the North East, every 14-19 partnership is on track to deliver at least three diplomas in 2009. Most notably, North Tyneside and Newcastle will deliver five diplomas from September 2008 and Sunderland is one of only five partnerships in the whole country to deliver ten diplomas from September 2009. Information on all of the diplomas offered in the North East.

We work with the 14-19 Regional Advisor, the Learning and Skills Council and other relevant organisations to support 14-19 partnerships in their preparation for and delivery of the diplomas. Our role includes:

  • delivering an annual gateway to assess applications from the North East to deliver diplomas
  • coordinating the support on offer to 14-19 partnerships
  • acting as a conduit for information and communication flows between the involved organisations and the Deparment for Children, Schools and Families.

In addition to ongoing activity, we also facilitate two networks to help achieve this aim.

  1. The Workforce Support Network which includes representatives from all of the support organisations offering support in the North East and the 14-19 Coordinators Network. The Workforce Support Network meets quarterly and aims to coordinate the support offered to ensure readiness for delivery.
  2. The Local Authority 14-19 Coordinators Network. The network meets quarterly and aims to facilitate the sharing of good practice and advice.
