Professor Stephen Singleton is Regional Director of Public Health and Medical Director of the North East Strategic Health Authority.
From a background as a rural GP, he was previously Director of Public Health in Northumberland. Stephen has a long-term interest in knowledge management and is Chair of the National Library Health Board. For NHS North East he leads on commissioning, primary care, workforce development and the national programme for IT as well as public health and emergency planning. As a senior civil servant with the Department of Health he has a formal liaison role with the Department of Work and Pensions.
He is a lecturer at Newcastle University and has research interests in quality, safety, medical education and informatics.
He is a NHS member of the NICE Joint Planning Board and is Chair of the Trustees of the Children's Foundation.
