Patrick has worked in both central and local government for 23 years, and has lived in the region for 27 years. Prior to joining Government Office he worked in the Department for Education and Skills leading work with local authorities on the development of coherent education strategies, school organisation and planning and funding.
In local government Patrick has worked in metropolitan councils, leading policy review and value for money work across a range of service areas. For a number of years he worked for the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Authority taking a special interest in the relationship between transport, health, the environment and access to opportunities. He also acted as an advisor to the former Association of Metropolitan Authorities.
His career started in civil engineering, working on local regeneration projects and transport planning. Patrick has an MA in Urban Studies from Northumbria University.
When out of the office Patrick is keen on art and creativity, watching his daughter play rugby and donning a wet suit for body-boarding. Patrick is a Young Enterprise volunteer.
