Judith has a wealth of experience in criminal justice and community safety spanning over 25 years. She started her public sector career with Durham Probation Service before being seconded to the role of Community Safety Coordinator for County Durham in 1994. In this role she was heavily involved in neighbourhood regeneration and developing the community safety partnership infrastructure across County Durham.
In 1998 she joined Durham County Council as Community Safety Manager where she championed a whole council approach to community safety. She has contributed to variety of community safety related work at national level working with closely the Local Government Association, the Audit Commission and the Home Office. She was Vice Chair of the National Community Safety Network from 1998 to 2000.
She joined the Home Office on secondment in 2002 where she developed the department's approach to local public service agreements before heading up the Partnership Policy Team. In the latter role she led the Government's review of the partnership provisions of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
Before taking up her current post, Judith was Deputy Clerk and Policy Advisor to Durham Policy Authority. Born and brought up in the North East, Judith studied for first and second degrees at Northumbria and Durham universities respectively and maintains a strong academic interest.
