Bryan has worked in the Government Office for the North East since 1994. Before that he worked in a number of departments including:
- Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency
- International Road Freight Office
- Department of the Environment
- Department of Trade and Industry.
His responsibilities are to lead on environmental and rural policy issues.
