Over £1.4million windfall for Southwark library

Published: Thu, 01 Nov 2007 00:00:00
A major rejuvenation of John Harvard Library is now a reality after Southwark Council was awarded over £1.4million in lottery funding. The council was one of 149 authorities in the UK competing for a total of £80million as part of the ‘Community Libraries programme’ of the Big Lottery Fund. The fund has announced that 58 councils have successfully bid for the award, including Southwark. It is the first time a specific funding stream has been made available to community libraries in the UK.
