Annual Crime Figures for London

The Metropolitan Police released the latest crime figures for London on 20 April. Crime in London has decreased to a five year low with overall crime decreasing by 3.3% in the last twelve months to February 2006. More crimes are being solved with the annual detection rate at 17.8%, an increase of 3.3% from the previous year with 90% of homicides being solved. However, some areas of crime have increased, most notably, youth on youth robbery, particularly in the theft of mobile phones. It has risen by 16.1%. Gun crime has also risen 4.2% but has continued a downward trend since December 2005. Burglary has increased slightly by 2.5%, motor vehicle crime has increased by 0.5% and domestic violence has increased by 1.2%.
