Residents are increasingly aware of New Deal for Communities (NDC) programmes and their benefits, according to new figures published by ODPM on 2 March. The findings come from surveys carried out by MORI / NOP in 2002 and then 2004, in which 500 people in each of the 39 NDC areas across the country were asked about the quality of life in their area and knowledge of the local NDC programme. The surveys show that between 2002 and 2004 the number of residents aware of the local NDC programme increased from 63% to 79%, the number of residents who feel their area has got better rose from 24% to 38% and the those who believed that the NDC had improved their area increased from 33% to 51%. Additionally satisfaction with services such as the police has risen by 5% to 53% and the fear of being mugged has dropped 10% to 48%. There are 10 NDC areas in London.
