Prevent DVD launched

Published: Mon, 30 Nov 2009 10:54:19

GOL's Prevent Strategy Team launched its 'PEP Talk: Improving Political Engagement on Prevent in London' film on 19th November at Church House Conference Centre in Westminster, to an audience of Leaders, Lead Members on Prevent, Local Authority representatives and representatives from central government. The film aims to encourage greater political engagement among elected members on Prevent across the region.

GOL has been working with London boroughs to create a positive step towards encouraging greater political engagement on the Prevent agenda and a shared responsibility to tackling violent extremism.  As Councillors are key representatives of their communities and hold the power to drive forward policy in a meaningful and productive way, their involvement is vital.  Through their relationship with communities they can provide wider understanding and further engagement, which is paramount to the success of Prevent.

PEP Talk was designed to help Councillors by providing an interactive, visual tool aimed at increasing awareness of Prevent, provide relevant information, open up dialogue and share good practice.  PEP Talk includes interviews with Councillors across London, capturing a range of perspectives and approaches on the delivery of the agenda and includes a speech by Minister for London, Tessa Jowell.  So far the response has been positive, and it is largely thanks to GOLs partnership with colleagues in the local authorities and wider partnership network, that GOL has been able to deliver the important message of improving political engagement on Prevent.
