In particular they
discussed how local partners can have a role in commissioning employment
and skills provision. The Summit was organised through a sounding board
hosted by GOL and consisting of six London Chief Executives, London
Councils and Jobcentre Plus.
The board meets
regularly and will provide a key forum for closer working on employment and
worklessness issues in London. GOL, JobCentre Plus and DWP are also
arranging a key seminar for November on commissioning and exploring
opportunities to develop the devolution agenda further in London. Local
Authorities will be invited to attend.
The
success of the Sounding Board has caught the eye of others in Central
Government and across the GO Network who are considering expanding the
model into other policy areas. This will open the way for greater
engagement between local and central government.
