London Reception 2006
The annual London Reception was held at Riverwalk House this month hosted by Minister for London, Jim Fitzpatrick. The event was a chance for Government Office for London to meet and greet our stakeholders and say thank you to them for the contribution they have made to making London the great city it is.
The guests were a cross section of London’s community with attendees from the Voluntary and Community Sector, the Police, and the Greater London Authority, including Mayor Ken Livingstone.
Regional Director, Liz Meek, opened the event by welcoming guests and giving an overview of the major changes GOL has been through this last year. Changes include a massive restructuring into locality divisions focussing on place, and a cut in staff levels from 370 to 280 to become leaner and more strategic. Liz Meek also spoke about forging stronger links with stakeholders, sharing information, providing high-quality feedback to central departments on what works, and working with London partners to maximise delivery.
This was followed by a speech by Jim Fitzpatrick who praised all stakeholders for their work in the capital. . He also highlighted some of key achievements for London, including a drop in unemployment, huge investment in London’s infrastructure and significant improvements in the attainment of schoolchildren in the capital, with inner London especially making great advances at GCSE level.
He concluded by saying,
“Tonight is about saying well done and thank you for playing your part. As we look towards the future for London with optimism and purpose, there remains much for us to do together.”
