Business

In August 2004 employment within London had risen by 4% since 1997, with people claiming unemployment benefit having fallen by 33% in the same period. This shows a welcome trend, which we hope to enhance with our work within the business and local community.

To ensure that central government is fully aware of the issues facing the business and enterprise community we arrange visits and meetings for Ministers and senior civil servants, providing opportunities to see and hear at first hand some of the key issues.

Whilst GOL has no direct funds to provide for business, we are able to ‘sign-post’ to the most appropriate form of funding and additional assistance that may be available.  This can range from general start-up funds to helping business innovation.

We also supported the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games bid. We worked closely with the LDA and our representation on the Olympic Business Forum that seeks to keep London’s business and enterprise communities engaged, looking at ways that they may assist in the process.  Winning the Olympic Games will provide a major boost to London’s Regeneration agenda and will have a beneficial effect on not only on London’s business and enterprise communities but also businesses throughout the UK.
