The Home Office Domestic Violence Delivery plan outlines five key areas of work:
- To increase the early identification of victims of Domestic Violence
- To build capacity within the Domestic Violence sector
- To develop a coordinated community response to Domestic Violence
- To increase reporting rates of Domestic Violence offences and bring more perpetrators to justice
- To support victims of Domestic Violence through the Criminal Justice process
This year GOL has been focusing on improving the Criminal Justice response to Domestic Violence and working closely with the London Criminal Justice Board (LCJB) on this strand. The plan is over the next three years to ensure that every borough in London has a trained Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) and Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC). Over £600,000 has been provided to support local areas this year.
Domestic Violence is now seen as an area that impacts on many other areas of life. To this end, local areas may wish to identify Domestic Violence as an improvement target in their Local Area Agreement (LAA) from April 2008. To this end, GOL and the LCJB have produced guidance for local areas.
GOL is also working with other major stakeholders involved in DV across the capital namely the Greater London Domestic Violence Project (GLDVP), the Metropolitan Police Service, London Probation and voluntary organisations.
