East Midlands Airport

Airports

Government Office East Midlands (GOEM) has assisted the Department for Transport (DfT) with the preparation of the Air Transport White Paper.

The White Paper sets out a strategic framework for the development of airport capacity in the UK over the next 30 years.

East Midlands Airport (Nottingham-Leicester-Derby) – Proposed Runway Expansion

In the White Paper the Department for Transport (DfT) said that, on the evidence available, it does not believe that a second runway is justified at EMA. The Department for Transport (DfT) is keeping the situation under review in case growth at the airport proves to be more rapid than it currently expects.

The Department asked East Midlands Airport (EMA) to update its existing Master Plan which sets out proposals for the development of the airport to 2030, taking account of the Regional Spatial Strategy, including the Regional Transport Strategy, and Local Transport Plans (more information of these can be found through accessing the links at the bottom of this page). These documents will in turn take account of the Airport’s Master Plan when they are revised.

GOEM worked with EMA to help them produce their finalised Master Plan. A draft document was published for consultation on 10 February 2006. The consultation ran until 14 May 2006 and EMA arranged several exhibitions for the public to learn more about the Plan. A copy of the document can also be obtained from EMA. Contact details are available on the NEMA website.

Following consideration of all the views put forward the final version of the Master Plan was published in December 2006 and is due to be reviewed every five years. The document can be viewed on EMA's website
