LTPs are the central building blocks of the Government’s integrated transport policy. Their introduction was announced in the Government’s Transport White Paper ‘A New Deal for Transport: Better for Everyone’ published in 1998.
In 2006, all the authorities in the East Midlands had their second Local Transport Plans for the 2006-11 period scored as “excellent” or "good". At the same time, all the region’s authorities had their delivery of their first Local Transport Plans for the 2001-2006 period assessed as "excellent", "very good" or "good" with none in the “satisfactory” category.

In addition to the above LTP Settlement, DfT allocated additional funds to local highway authorities in the East Midlands as follows:

The Road Safety Grant, introduced for 2007/08, replaced the previous system of allocating road speed camera revenues between authorities. Further information on the Road Safety Grant allocations for 2007-11 can be found on our Road Safety page.
