Anyone can nominate a candidate - friends, neighbours and colleague can all suggest people whose achievements they admire.
You can make your nominations throughout the year. The process is quite lengthy so you may not be aware of the outcome for some time.
Outstanding achievement by individuals does not just reflect upon them, but also their companies and local communities.
Nomination tips:
- nominations should set out what the person has achieved and provide current examples
- honours are normally awarded while the individual is still in the post, or involved in the activities for which they have been recommended
- letters of support from others can add important supporting evidence
- do not consult the nominee. You may not know everything that is necessary for a citation form. It is reasonable to ask other people for additional information about the candidate. However all enquiries should be made in strict confidence, so as not to either spoil the surprise, or cause disappointment in the event that the candidate is unsuccessful
Candidates are nominated because they have:
- made a real difference and prompted change
- contributed to the lives of others
- an outstanding record of sustained and selfless voluntary service
- demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurship delivering lasting results
- shown sustained achievements against the odds
