Dr Ladyman visited Northampton, Corby and Kettering and met with stakeholders from the county, district and borough councils, the Development Company and other organisations to discuss transport issues related to this part of the Milton Keynes South Midlands Growth Area.
The Minister said:
"This has been a useful visit. I've heard the views of local leaders and stakeholders about the transport issues in this key part of the growth area and I've been out and seen things for myself.
"I'm also pleased to have been able to announce that the government will be funding nearly £1 million of transport improvements in Kettering. I'd like to thank everyone for coming to the table today, and for all the work that they have put in over the last year or so. We must work together if we are to achieve the sustainable growth planned for this part of Northamptonshire."
The £900,000 from Communities and Local Government's (CLG) Growth Area Fund will go towards the Kettering Town Centre Intelligent Transport System Project. Delivered by Northamptonshire County Council, the project is a package of measures designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in Kettering.
While in the county Dr Ladyman announced that he has instructed the Highways Agency to look further into options to improve the A14 between Junctions 7 and 10, in line with the recommendations of the Joint Working Steering Group on the A14.
