Parvin Ali OBE and Stan Crawford OBE will all take up their three-year re-appointments on 14 December 2008 until 13 December 2011.

Remuneration for the appointment
Regional Development Agency Board Member posts attract a remuneration of £8,371 per year for a time commitment of a minimum of 2 days per month.

The body to which the appointment(s) have been made and its function
RDAs are business-led organisations, and provide strategic leadership to promote economic development, enterprise and regeneration in their regions, tackling economic differences within their regions as well as driving up the performance of the regions as a whole. Their role will shortly be broadened by gaining the responsibility for drawing up the Single Integrated Regional Strategy, brining together sustainable economic development and regeneration, spatial planning, housing, transport, and climate change action. They are to become the Regional Planning Body.
In 2006-07, emda helped create or safeguard over 9,000 new jobs across the region, helped and encouraged nearly 6,000 people get a job and redeveloped 117 hectares of brownfield land – equivalent to 234 football pitches. emda aims to make the East Midlands a truly flourishing region by 2020 – with growing and innovative businesses, skilled people in good quality jobs, participating in healthy, inclusive communities and living in thriving and attractive places.
Appointments being made in accordance with OCPA Code of Practice
The original appointments were made following open competition in accordance with the requirements set down in the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice. All appointments are made on merit and political affiliation plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public.
A brief summary of the re-appointees career and experience Parvin Ali OBE
Parvin is founder and Chief Executive of FATIMA Women's Network, the regional women’s network and a member of the Regional Assembly and Vice Chair of the Department of Work and Pensions Ethnic Minority Advisory Group. She is also a member of the national Muslim Women’s Advisory Group, chaired by Minister Hazel Blears and a member of the VCS Interim East Midlands Single Infrastructure Platform and on the executive boards of Voice4Change and Connections for Development. She works extensively with the World Islamic Economic Forum to establish an international Business Women’s Network for professionals and entrepreneurs and is on the Malaysian Business Council.
Parvin is a former Partner of Leicester Strategic Partnership (representing Women’s organisations in the voluntary sector) and Oadby & Wigston Strategic Partnership (representing the business sector), she has been on the Board of Leicester CAN, a member of the Regional Environmental Protection Advisory Committee, member of the Netregs Business Advisory Group and a member of the President's Policy Committee of Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Parvin joined the emda Board in 2005 and is the Board champion for Enterprise and Business Support.
Stan Crawford OBE
Stan is currently Managing Director of Sherwood Energy Village, and a Director of SEV Solutions Ltd. He is also Chair of the Boughton Pumping Station Partnership Trust.
He was previously Manager of Ashfield Links Forum and before that Project Manager for Mansfield CVS.
Stan is elected Councillor for the Ollerton Ward of Newark and Sherwood District Council and Town Councillor for the Ollerton North Ward of Ollerton and Boughton Town Council.
Previous positions held include board member of the Alliance Sub Strategic Partnership (SSP), Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Mayor and Leader of Ollerton and Boughton Town Council. He is a past President of Nottinghamshire National Union of Mineworkers.
Stan joined the emda Board in 2005 and is the Board champion for Regional Assembly Relations.
