Fifteen year-10 students visited the office, spending time with teams dealing with IT, enterprise and education and children and learners.
They saw how the GOEM website is put together and how the office PCs and servers work, and learnt how GOEM works with schools and young people to deliver Government policies.
They also gave feedback on the website from a young person’s perspective and completed a questionnaire on their preferences which will feed into national research to inform the Government’s Green Paper on children and young people.
IT teacher Lisa Harrison said:
“We need organisations willing to show groups of students around their premises and explain how ICT is used in the daily running of the organisation. It is important for them to learn how computers are used outside the school environment.
“The visit was really useful and pitched at just the right level. We hope we can repeat the exercise next year.”
