Family Nurse Partnerships are a joint Department of Health/Department for Children, Schools and Families project that test a model of intensive nurse-led home visiting for vulnerable first time young parents.
Graham Allen, Chair of One Nottingham which has been promoting the idea along with local partners said:
“Congratulations go to all involved in the One Nottingham partnership on this fantastic achievement. This is a tremendous breakthrough for Nottingham in its continuing development on early intervention and comes at the perfect time just one month ahead of our launch as Early Intervention City.
"This will be the start of meeting our ambition that every young single mum in Nottingham gets professional nurse-led help when she needs it most to raise her baby, so the baby will be able to learn at school and to go on to become a useful and productive citizen in Nottingham."
"This isn’t just a nice add on for babies and mums, the long term impact will be felt in improved education attainment, better skill levels, fewer teen pregnancies, lower crime and drug use, and stronger communities.
"The scheme will be piloted in the first instance and will bring in more health visitors and midwives’ assistants. Our health and children’s services partners in particular deserve tremendous credit for working together over the last two years to create this breakthrough”.
