We have a challenging twelve months ahead. Ministers want to ensure that effort and resources are focused on the priorities that matter most, nationally and locally.
That requires that we:
Successfully roll-out nationally Local Area Agreements and progress Multi-Area Agreements;
Establish the new local performance framework;
Deliver an ambitious, radical programme to extend devolution to localities and new forms of citizen empowerment;
Manage local government restructuring.
GOs obviously therefore play a crucial role in delivering the things that our Ministers, and Ministers across government, care about. It’s that actual act of delivery that I want to explore here.
- As GOs, what 2 things on the Local Government agenda keep you awake at night? What can we do that would help you sleep better?
- I'm new to LAAs - how's it looking from your perspective? How do we best ensure that the LAA process delivers the national priorities that central government cares about while also leaving room for local priorities?
- How confident are you/we that we will get the LA leadership that Ministers want? What would build confidence?
- How do we encourage real community empowerment?”
