Pride of place in the East Midlands

Published: Mon, 15 Oct 2007 11:27:37

Vote for your favourite home town hot spot!

What's your favourite place in the East Midlands? Is it a castle, art gallery, racecourse or even a power station? Where do you take visitors when you want to show off your home patch?

Local Authorities across the region have launched the 'Pride of Place' on-line poll, to find out exactly what fills you with pride. The poll is easy, fun and a great way to get to know the region in more detail. You can cast your vote by simply logging on to your local authority website and clicking on the Pride of Place icon (please see the attached PDF for full list of participating authorities).

We've got the ball rolling by asking some local faces from across the East Midlands where they're most proud. Jeannie Packer, the Sheriff of Nottingham, chose:

"The unique network of sandstone caves that extend underneath the city of Nottingham - there's no other place on earth like it, you can feel the history behind them."

The poll is part of the Government's "Connect to your Council" campaign which aims to encourage citizens across England to access their local authority services online anytime, anywhere. Citizens can now use council websites to find out anything from planning information to applying for school places. Find out more at the 'Directgov - My Council' link below

The Pride of Place poll is part of a nation-wide initiative, and can be accessed until 30 November 2007 after which the results will be released.
