Glass Crime - Fragile Lives; The Damage is Done.

East Midlands Good Practice Sharing Seminar to Reduce Alcohol Related Town and City Centre Violence and Injuries.

You are warmly invited to join us at a seminar to share good practice to reduce town and city centre alcohol related violence and injuries at:

  • Government Office for the East Midlands, Nottingham.
    Monday 29 October 2007 10.30 - 3.30 pm

This seminar will focus on the benefits of:

  • Replacing glassware with safer alternatives.
  • Improving the collection of alcohol data at  accident and emergency services.
  • Sharing this data with the criminal justice sector to enhance the management of licensed premises.

Guest speakers will include:

  • Marjorie Golding - Marjorie's son was brutally attacked with a smashed bottle whilst he was at work on Christmas Eve in Milton Keynes
  • Piers Massey - A Nurse Consultant at the Northampton general Hospital in the A and E department who can, all too graphically, describe the benefits of replacing glassware with safer alternatives
  • Sergeant Mark Worthington - From Northamptonshire Police who is encouraging licensed premises in Northampton town to become ‘glass free’
  • David Sheehan - Development Manager Public Health Group South East who is working with hospitals across the south east to collect alcohol data from patients attending A and E
  • Police Inspector Paul Winter - Local Area Commander for Nottingham City, who contributed to the writing of 'A practitioners' guide for dealing with problem licensed providers' (Police and Crime Standards Directorate, November 2006) who will discuss how the sharing of A and E data can benefit the police in their management of licensed premises.
