The East Midlands Strategy for the 2012 Games

Published: Tue, 18 Dec 2007 10:51:56

In the summer of 2007 a consultation document was released by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) on the direction they proposed to take the region towards, during and after the 2012 Games. An excellent response was received from individuals, organisations and interest groups across the region and their feedback forms the new strategy and revamped structure.

The structure will focus on:

  • encouraging more people to take part in sport
  • establishing clear and sustainable pathways for talented sportspeople to develop to their full potential
  • ensuring we fully support and exploit Loughborough University's worldwide reputation for supporting elite sports performance

The East Midlands Management Board for the 2012 Games is responsible for strategically directing the region’s activities. The group is made up of representatives from emda, Sport England, GOEM, East Midlands Tourism, Culture East Midlands, the Performance Action Group and a representative for the local authorities (LAs).

The strategy is about to be sent out to all LA Chief Executives, the East Midlands Regional Assembly (EMRA) and Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) sponsored bodies such as Arts Council England.
