The nominations for the 2008 Orange British Academy Film Awards have been announced and East Midlands talent, along with EM Media co-financed productions have been nominated in a number of categories.

In the Best British Film category Control and This Is England are pitched against Atonement, The Bourne Ultimatum and Eastern Promises. Shane Meadows, director of This Is England also received a nomination in the Original Screenplay category.

Samantha Morton is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Deborah Curtis in Control.

Matt Greenhalgh (Writer-Control) is nominated for The Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer for their First Feature Film.

Sam Riley (Control) is also nominated for the Orange Rising Star Award which is decided by a public vote. Vote for Sam on the BAFTA website.

Control and This Is England each received £250,000 investment from EM Media through the European Regional Development Fund and EM Media’s Locations Services assisted both productions to source locations, crew and facilities. Both shot on location in Nottingham; This Is England during the summer of 2005 and Control during the summer of 2006. The films brought substantial inward investment of almost £6 million to the region and created 76 jobs for local crew:

Paddy Considine’s Dog Altogether and Nottingham based-director Simon Ellis’ Soft were both nominated in the Best Short Film category. Dog Altogether, the directorial debut of Bourne Ultimatum actor Paddy Considine, received £10,000 investment from EM Media through the European Regional Development Fund.

The winners will be announced at a star studded ceremony at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden hosted by Jonathan Ross, on Sunday 10 February 2008.
