Government Offices represent the interests of 11 Government Departments in the English regions. They support the Departments’ aims of improving economic performance, skills, productivity and innovation by influencing the priorities set by Government and regional partners for the regional economic development, and assisting their effective delivery.

GOEM works with the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) sector in manufacturing, textiles and electronics. Ongoing relationships are being developed with key businesses in their areas.
We provide knowledge and intelligence on skills issues for the over-19s and communicate government policies to business and other stakeholders in the East Midlands.
We work with the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE) and the seven regional universities to develop activities through the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). The aim of this fund is to support the reach-out agenda to business and the community.
We represent the BERR as an observer on the board of Business Services East Midlands (BSEM).
The Board, part of emda (east midlands development agency), manages Business Links and co-ordinates public sector support to small and medium sized enterprises. It also supports businesses in becoming more innovative through grants for research and development.
