Crime Reduction Initiatives

Crime reduction and community safety initiatives are being delivered across the East Midlands by statutory and voluntary agencies, Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships and other multi-agency partnerships.

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, amended by the Police Reform Act 2002, sets out statutory requirements for responsible authorities to work with other local agencies and organisations to develop and implement strategies to tackle crime and disorder and misuse of drugs in their area. We are responsible for resourcing various Crime Initiative funding streams, through the Safer and Stronger Communities Fund.

The Safer and Stronger Communities Fund aims to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour and to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs within our region.

The fund brings together a number of Home Office and Department for Communities and Local Government funding streams, such as:

  • Building Safer Communities Fund
  • Domestic Violence
  • Neighbourhood and Street Wardens
