Community Safety

Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM) is responsible for the delivery of the National Drug Strategy, Crime Reduction Strategy and communities' agenda in the region. We provide support to Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships and Drug Action Teams and provide a link between them and central government.

Government Offices make a regional contribution to the Government’s aim to build a safe, just and tolerant society, protect the public and ensure the balance between the rights and responsibilities of individuals, families and communities is properly maintained. Government Offices also deliver the four key themes of the National Drug Strategy. More information on the national picture

We work closely with the 40 Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) and the nine Drug Action Teams (DATs) in the region, providing a link between them and central government. The overall objective of the partnerships is to reduce crime, fear of crime, anti-social behaviour and drug-related crime. We support improvements in the performance of the CDRPs and DATs and oversee the closer working and possible merger of the partnerships.
