New appointment and re-appointments to the Board of East of England Development Agency

Published: Fri, 01 May 2009 12:30:00

Pat McFadden, Minister of State for Employment Relations and Postal Affairs, today announced the appointment of a new member of the board of East of England Development Agency and the re-appointment of three existing board members.

New member Doctor Robert Swann will take up his appointment on 1 May and Peter McCarthy Ward, William Pope, and Lord Edward Iveagh will take up their three-year re-appointments on 14 December 2009.

Pat McFadden said:

"I am pleased to be appointing Robert Swann and reappointing Peter McCarthy Ward, William Pope, and Lord Edward Iveagh to the Board of East of England Development Agency. Their experience and leadership is extremely important during these difficult economic times.

"The RDA's work providing real help for families in the east of England and the businesses on whom they depend for their jobs has never been more vital. They are on the frontline of our response to the global downturn and must make the right interventions and investments to help us emerge stronger."

Richard Ellis, Chair of East of England Development Agency, said:

"I welcome Robert Swann's appointment as his wealth of experience in business and innovation will help EEDA and the East of England.

The region is the UK's innovation leader and EEDA's priority is to ensure that businesses have targeted support through the tough times, in preparation for the economic upturn.

Robert's knowledge will ensure the board continues to support the innovative companies which are vital to the regional economy.

The reappointment of Peter McCarthy Ward, William Pope, and Lord Edward Iveagh is further good news. As board members, they have ensured that we provide good value for money, with every pound of EEDA investment delivering a return of between £3.70 and £5.80 for the region. The evaluation work will help us do even better in the future to benefit businesses and communities in the region."
