The event, which took place at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton, provided an opportunity for representatives from local authorities, businesses and other organisations including the Learning and Skills Council and Job Centre Plus to identify ways to progress the skills and talent agenda in the East of England.
The East of England Minister Barbara Follett said: "Improving skills in Luton, the eastern region and throughout the whole of the United Kingdom is a key Government priority. Today we are looking at how local authorities can improve skills in their own organisations, their work with businesses and with the wider community.
"I commend the work being done to raise skills by partners in Luton. If they succeed the area will be able to compete effectively in the global economy."
Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire, Professor Les Ebdon, said:
"Skills will play a key role in ensuring sustainable economic success for this region. I'm delighted that the University is hosting this very important meeting of Chief Executives who are charged with driving forward the skills agenda."
