Business and Industry
We act as a regional two-way channel of communication between business and government. We provide regional knowledge, intelligence and business opinion to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and other government departments and communicate BERR policies to business.
Government Offices represent the interests of 11 Government Departments in the English regions. They support the Departments’ aims of improving economic performance, skills, productivity and innovation by influencing the priorities set by Government and regional partners for the regional economic development, and assisting their effective delivery.
More information on the national picture
We do this by working with businesses throughout the East of England to identify factors that impact upon competitiveness and productivity, to understand sectoral issues and to report more generally on developments in the regional economy. The intelligence we gather is fed back to the BERR and to other government departments to promote a better understanding of the business case across Whitehall and to encourage policy making that provides a supportive environment which helps companies to prosper and grow.
We also have responsibility for appointments to the East of England Industrial Development Board (EEIDB). The EEIDB is responsible for assessing and approving grant applications of up to £2 million for Selective Finance for Investment in England (SFIE). In the East of England SFIE is available in certain local authority wards within Luton, Dunstable, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
