Government Offices work with local and regional partners to help local authorities and education providers to achieve a number of objectives. This includes improving behaviour and truancy in schools, and maintaining improvements in levels of educational attainment. We also aim to help schools develop their commitment to the sustainable development agenda.
Through Priorities Meetings, Annual Performance Assessments and Joint Area Reviews we develop a shared understanding with individual Local Authorities on local priorities/issues and the action needed or in process to meet key targets.
Structural issues such as the future of individual schools are primarily a matter for individual Local Authorities and their partners and therefore something on which the Government Office cannot comment. However, we do contribute to the appraisal of Local Authority ‘Building Schools for the Future [BSF] submissions, both through chairing high level meetings and by providing policy colleagues within DCSF with supporting insights into regional issues and local context.
In addition the Deputy Regional Director [Children and Learners] provides a personal contribution to the schools agenda: as a Secondary School Governor; as an accredited School Improvement Partner working with two secondary Schools; and through his continued involvement with the National College for School Leadership [NCSL].
