Connexions

Government Office for the East of England’s role is to oversee and facilitate the Connexions service in providing integrated advice, guidance and access to social and personal development opportunities to young people aged 13 to 19 in the region.

Connexions is a Government support service for all young people aged 13 to 19 in England. It ensures that young people have access to information, advice and guidance to help make a smooth transition to adulthood and working life. Some young people may just be seeking careers advice, for others it may involve more in-depth support to help identify barriers to learning and to provide help and advice on issues like drug abuse, sexual health and homelessness. Government Offices ensure the effective delivery of the Connexions Service and related programmes in the regions. More information on the national picture

Through Connexions, all young people have access to a personal adviser (PA). PAs work in a range of settings – schools, colleges, one stop shops, community centres and on an out-reach basis.

By 2008 the information, advice and guidance offered by Connexions partnerships will be delivered through local authority Children’s Trusts arrangements. A major role for the Government Office will be to facilitate a smooth and successful transition and to ensure that young people continue to receive a high quality service under the new arrangements. The Connexions services provided by the former Cambridge and Peterborough Connexions Partnership and by Suffolk Connexions has already transferred to Local Authority delivery arrangements. In the remaining partnerships, discussions are underway about future delivery.

There are currently 4 Connexions Partnerships in the East of England:

Bedfordshire & Luton
Essex, Southend & Thurrock
Hertfordshire
Norfolk
